420 16" biflex driver in a 828 cabinets

I did a search on the 420 biflex driver and the most recent post was from 2012. Sorry if I am resurrecting an old topic.
Over the weekend, I put a 420 biflex driver into a 828 cabinet just to see how it sounded.
To my amazement, it sounded very good running full range.
I had it connected to a Merlin ISP-100 active crossover and began merging it with 1005B / 288-16G horn driver. I found that around 7500 Hz is a good place to crossover.. the two and still sound good.
Just wondering if someone else has tried this.
Full the 420 in full range mode, it sounds like it can make it up to 10-12K. I was pleasantly surprise.....

This is going to be more fun then the other project that I am working on.... tuning an A7 into MLTL.

420s are fun drivers. they do have some limitations. but nice overall.

Mids sound nice, bass is full and impactful. There are no highs. Not as efficient as the 515 and the 416 ...What are the other limitations?

Not sure how well this combo will perform as the horn's increased throat pressure will damp the bi-flex's small mid driver or worse, it may modulate it out of phase or even damage it at higher power. Only one way to know for sure though.

I m biamping with 6w/Ch tube amp, added a 511b/902-8b for the highs. Crossover at 3750hz with 24db butterworth crossover, it sounds really good. I push the crossover point higher but base on my hearing, less than 4000 hz appears optimal.

Fellas in Eastern Europe i have sold bi-flexes to really like them in back loaded horns, ah la JBL 4530 etc..

This type of horn loading makes sense; I'm surprised FLH loading isn't [audibly] messing up its mechanical XO performance.

They seem to like the bigger port size.

Makes sense as the 420 wants to 'feel' a 30+ft^3 cab tuned really low when vented, so ideally the 828 needs to be sealed or at least lossy [leaky] sealed.

If one must use an 811/1200 Hz XO [or ideally higher] with a baffled 15", using a 'filler' lower mids driver is a good way to go and if incorporated into the 15", then all the better.
